about
Kokytos is the second single of the upcoming second album, "Poemata Inferis Fluminibus", out on February 25th via Weregnome Records. The album praises the six rivers of the Greek underworld through a fictional Dantesque journey of sorrow and renewal. Each song has an accompanying sonnet that deals with the track's subject, and the poems will be included in a booklet together with the cassette.
This track is dedicated to Kokytos, the river of tears. Here is the sonnet I've done in honour of the deity:
lyrics
River of lamentation, waters of tears,
Father of doomed love, abode of wretched traitors,
Source of wailing, frost in the hearts of deserters,
My beloved ordeal, solace disappeareth.
The screech-owls sing gruesome omens like spears
Piercing the soul, they dole their lusterless augurs
In thy sluggish streams and in thy languished futures,
And yet their song is deafened by wailing sinners.
O sulphurous creek, bearer of woe and disgrace,
Scorn of bliss, bring forth to the foul their perdition
O somber, excruciating dirge of the damned.
I can bide no longer in thy grievous embrace,
For thou, lowermost and most glacial damnation,
Art a torment too great for anyone who lived…
