about
After a certain period of silence, Elven Sorrow returns with a new track. Styx is the first single of the upcoming second album, "Poemata Inferis Fluminibus", out on February 25th via Weregnome Records. The album praises the six rivers of the Greek underworld through a fictional Dantesque journey of sorrow and renewal. Each song has an accompanying sonnet that deals with the track's subject, and the poems will be included in a booklet together with the cassette.
This track is dedicated to the sevenfold border of our fate: Styx, the river of hate. Here is the sonnet I've done in honour of the deity:
lyrics
River of abhorrence, gloomy waters of hate,
Mother of victory, force, might and rivalry,
O thou who boundest the gods in oath sacredly,
My beloved acrimony, bane of the prostrate.
Sevenfold and primeval border of my fate,
Mistress of truth, punisher of lies and folly,
Alas, thy vows bring demise and doom so grimly,
None has yet risen to soothly prevaricate…
O most rightful judge, smother the dead in loathing,
For in thy land they shall dwell in pain henceforward,
Yet fair end thou also steadily enclosest.
Ally of the highest king, thou earned thy praising,
For thou art loyal, safeguard of all that’s augured.
Athwart thy waves my cries shall wander the saddest…
